Sealing Leaks in Pipelines with Ammoniated Waters

Publication: Journal of the Irrigation and Drainage Division
Volume 95, Issue 1

Abstract

Techniques for reducing seepage losses in monolithic and precast concrete pipelines with ammoniated irrigation waters are described. In field tests lime (CaC03) precipitating from treated well and surface waters sealed leakages in the pipeline systems with encrustations ranging from 0.04 to 0.07 lbs per sq ft of internal pipe surface. It is estimated that 50% to 75% savings over conventional sealing methods may be realized with this method.
