Abstract
A method is presented that uses an auxiliary potential function for the purpose of reducing the effort involved in the numerical solution of seepage problems using nonhomogeneous, or layered systems. If, for the particular boundary conditions under consideration, the solution for a homogeneous medium is available, a systematic approach can be used to determine the required corrections to the homogeneous case that will yield the solution to the layered case. The method is intended to supplement desk computation techniques. An illustrative example demonstrating the procedure is included.
