Abstract
This paper outlines the geography and geology of the San Joaquin Valley of California, with special emphasis on the factors affecting drainage. Following this, the drainage problems as they exist today are unfolded through a description of the cultural changes that have brought them into sharp focus; and, finally, the objectives and scope of the drainage investigation currently in progress are described.
