Tomorrow’s Energy: Power from Inner and Outer Space

Abstract
The only two solar energy systems having base load capability (i.e., no energy storage or backup requirement) are space-based solar power plants and ocean thermal energy conversion systems. Although both appear costly in today's economic environment, they are both fundamentally practical concepts for serious consideration now, in preparation for early 21st-century deployment.
