Dry-Wet Tower Evaporation and Fog Psychometrics

Publication: Journal of the Power Division
Volume 102, Issue 1

Abstract

To determine the adequacy of existing dry-wet tower configurations and to evaluate proposed combinations of dry-wet towers with regard to various environmental consequences, it is necessary to calculate water consumption and fogging magnitude for each cooling configuration, at all meteorological conditions which can occur at a specific site. Each comprehensive calculations must be made while maintaining practical manageability of the resulting models to be usable for a large number of repetitive calculations and to interface with existing thermodynamic models. This paper describes the basic psychrometric models and definitions that are necessary for a comprehensive consideration of water consumption and fogging magnitude that are associated with two parallel air path dry-wet cooling tower configurations. Brief comments on the integrated thermodynamic models and relevant outputs are examined and the use of the psychrometric models is illustrated with example calculations.
