Abstract
The writers have sought means of combining the storage of large quantities of energy of thermal origin (off-peak) within a conventional tidal power project, to produce power as required, in particular at constant rate over a 12 hr daytime period. Coupling energy sources in this way is shown to have many beneficial advantages over their separate development, particularly in terms of efficiency and cost. A detailed scheme is worked out for the Severn Estuary, but the method adopted has no lack of generality.
