Select Reservoir Withdrawl by Multilevel Intakes

Publication: Journal of the Power Division
Volume 96, Issue 1

Abstract

Hydraulic model tests verify multilevel intakes to be an effective design for selective reservoir withdrawal. New Hope Dam and Reservoir, Cape Fear River Basin, N.C., utilizes a multilevel intake design for selective withdrawal of impounded water as aid in water quality control. The intakes permit flexibility in the selection of the stratum from which reservoir releases are made. Hydraulic model tests results verify the functional design of the intake structure for flows ranging from 300 cfs to 2500 cfs. Model studies did not reveal vibration of intake tower to be a problem.
