Improved Appearance pf Switchyards and Substations

Abstract
The report summarizes the Bureau of Reclamation's policy, criteria, and designs for improving the appearance of switchyard and substation facilities. Environmental planning in locating switchyards and substations is discussed. The paper presents the concept and development for simplified low silhouette designs for steel structures employing rigid-frame type structures to achieve optimum esthetic effects within economic limits. Use of color and landscaping are also discussed, along with ways to improve existing installations. The paper has 18 figures.
