Choice, Not Chance, in Technopolis

Abstract

The student entering the field of civil engineering will find his future profession offers a wide variety of opportunities. The type, scope, and area of work is almost unlimited. As a profession, civil engineering is an integral part of society. However, because of its massive, competitive, and diversified nature, the profession has the potential for corrupt and unethical practices. The rapid growth of society will offer the civil engineer occasions for unprecedented advancement and challenge. The engineer will find his ethical choices will parallel the increased technical demands. The student should build his ethical foundation today just as he is preparing an academic background. The strength of his basic convictions and the ability to practice them will form and guide his present and future ethical decisions.
