Cavitation at Rigid Boundary by Tensile Pulses

Abstract

Closed form solutions are obtained for the size and location of the cavitation bubbles caused by travelling tensile pulses in liquid otherwise at rest and reflecting at a rigid surface. It is found that the bubbles collapse at the trailing edges of the pulses and the interface pressure rises discontinuously at the points where the bubbles disappear.
