Large Deflection of Curved Beam with Shear Deformation
Publication: Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division
Volume 108, Issue 4
Abstract
A general analytical and numerical procedure, based on large deflections, small strains and moderately small rotations, is developed for an arbitrary plane curved beam made of linear elastic material and subjected to arbitrary conservative static loading. The equilibrium equations admit shear deformation, geometric imperfections, and the parameters of the linear elastic foundation. The numerical solution is obtained by a modification of Newton's method and by finite differences. Three numerical examples are presented, and the influence of shear stiffness is considered.
