Finite Layer Analysis of Nonhomogeneous Soils

Publication: Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division
Volume 108, Issue 1

Abstract

A finite layer approach capable of analyzing both layered and continuously varying elastic soil profiles is presented. The technique is shown to be accurate and efficient. It is then used to analyze the behaviour of footings on a soil with a homogeneous crust underlain by a deposit whose modulus increases linearly with depth.
