Transient Response of Fluid-Coupled Coaxial Shells

Publication: Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division
Volume 107, Issue 4

Abstract

An analytical solution for the fluid-structure-foundation interaction of two fluid filled coaxial cylinders on a rigid base slab is presented. The system may be excited horizontally in an arbitary manner at foundation level. The rocking of the base slab is taken into account. The fluid is chosen to be incompressible and inviscid. The analysis is performed in the frequency domain using substructuring technique. A corresponding computer code has been developed. The numerical results illustrate the strong influence of fluid level and structural properties on the response.
