Static Response of Reduced Rotation Rope
Publication: Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division
Volume 106, Issue 4
Abstract
A theory has been developed to predict the static response of a wire rope consisting of a left lay inner rope and a right lay outer rope. A nonrotating rope, under axial load, can be produced by a proper selection of the pitches of the outside and inside rope. The results of the theory are applied to a 1 x 19 wire rope in which all the individual wires in the rope have the same diameter. Expressions are presented for the various combinations of pitches which will produce such a rope and the results are shown in the form of a plot of the helix angle of the outside rope as a function of the helix angle of the inside rope. The theory is a frictionless one.
