Added Mass of Sphere near Floor in Oscillatory Waves
Publication: Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division
Volume 105, Issue 1
Abstract
The purpose of this note is to examine how the added mass of a fixed submerged sphere changes in the presence of a free surface (in addition to the wall boundary at the bottom) in two-dimensional oscillatory flow. The results of Hamilton and Courtney are compared with the results of the present method for long waves and the free surface far removed from the sphere. The two results are found to be different even when the sphere is far removed from the bottom boundary.
