Abstract
The importance of predicting the variation of tropical cyclone winds with height has long been recognized in structural engineering literature. The purpose of this note is to show, on the basis of simplified models of the boundary layer in cyclostrophic and geostrophic flow, that the differences between profiles of tropical cyclone and extratropical storm winds appear indeed to be significant.
