Collapse of Clamped Variable Thickness Circular Plates
Publication: Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division
Volume 99, Issue 6
Abstract
Limit analysis solutions for variable thickness circular plates are not well represented in the engineering literature, although designers and analysts are faced with estimating the collapse loads of these structural members. Circular plates of varying profile have been investigated by Hopkins and Prager and Haydl and Sherbourne. The purpose of this note is to provide a limit solution for the title problem and to show that the method of analysis employed is quite general, and is applicable to a wide range of related problems.
