Deformation in Multiple Tier Cylindrical Shells
Publication: Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division
Volume 99, Issue 5
Abstract
In the construction of large storage tanks, circular cylindrical tiers of different thicknesses are frequently used. In some applications, a floating roof with an adjustable sealing ring is employed. Due to nonuniform settling of the tank's foundation, unsymmetrical radial displacements occur which may be larger than the adjustable sealing ring can accommodate. The purpose of this note is to investigate the nonsymmetrical radial deformation due to nonuniform settling of the tank's foundation.
