Inelastic Response for Arbitrary Histories of Loads
Publication: Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division
Volume 95, Issue 3
Abstract
The paper presents procedures for calculating the inelastic response of prismatic segments subjected to arbitrary histories of loads and deformations. Included are the effects of nonlinear material properties and of elastic hysteresis. The procedures further take into account sudden changes in the cross-sectional properties as well as abrupt changes in the material properties. When the history of deformation is specified, the procedure presented gives a direct solution for the inelastic response of the segment; when the history of loading is specified, an iterative scheme yields the solution for the inelastic response. Examples are given to illustrate the procedures, and also to show the effects of histories of loading as well as histories of deformation.
