Abstract
In concrete tank construction the joints between the walls and floor are frequently made monolithic. Under internal loading there will be interaction between the walls and floor, causing rotations at the joints. These effects have a significant influence on the magnitude and distribution of the bending moments. A theoretical and experimental study of the behavior of a cube-shaped tank supported on an elastic foundation demonstrates that the maximum bending moment at the center of the wall to floor joint increases as the value of the foundation modulus increases. Therefore, the values of the design moments are dependent on the support conditions for the container.
