Response of Multi-Degree-of-Freedom Yielding Systems
Publication: Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division
Volume 94, Issue 2
Abstract
The steady-state frequency response equations for a class of multi-degree-of-freedom yielding structures are determined using approximate analytic techniques. The yield model used is a distributed element model which gives rise to a family of curved hysteresis loops. As an example of the general formulation, a three-degree-of-freedom system is considered and characteristics such as peak response amplitude, resonant frequency shift, and effective damping are analyzed.
