Abstract
Similarity solutions for wave propagation in an elastic-plastic solid are obtained for cases having cylindrical and spherical symmetry. The waves are induced by an expanding core of constant pressure. Yield criteria of von Mises and Tresca are assumed. Three types of wave structure are found to be possible, each of which is exhibited in numerical solutions for an aluminum medium.
