Response of a Cylindrical Shell to an Elastic Waves
Publication: Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division
Volume 91, Issue 3
Abstract
An infinitely long cylindrical shell is subjected to a plane stress wave whose front is parallel to the axis of the shell. An approximate solution for the response of the dilatational mode of the shell is established by extending a technique previously applied in the solution of the cylindrical shell-accoustic medium interaction problem. Results from the approximate solution are in close agreement with previously exact solutions that required extensive computer calculations.
