Abstract

The results of a numerical study of the stress and displacement fields for a layered system subjected to asymmetric surface shears are presented. The layered system is composed of an incompressible elastic layer supported on an incompressible elastic half space; loading consists of a surface shear uniformly distributed over a circular area. The interface condition is assumed to be continuous. Integral expressions for the stress and displacement components previously obtained, and within the scope of classical elastostatic theory, are numerically evaluated for locations and range of parameters of interest. In particular, surface displacements and interface stresses are considered. The results are presented in graphical form for values of 1/2, 1, 2 of the load concentration factor (layer thickness to load radius) and for ratios of 1/2, 1/10 of the shear moduli ratio (foundation to layer modulus).
