Abstract
Study of free vibration of rods with end supports of equal elasticity; expressions relating end-fixity to frequency and mode of vibration; with proper type of negative springs attached to ends of rod, vibrations can be completely suppressed; relationship of this phenomenon to instability of beams with negative end-fixity; study arose in connection with vibration problems associated with high velocity water flowing parallel to thin rods.
