Erratum for “Surface-Based Transport Model for Mixed-Size Sediment”

The following corrections should be made to “Surface-Based Transport Model for Mixed-Size Sediment” by Peter R. Wilcock and Joanna C. Crowe, https://doi.org/10.1061/(ASCE)0733-9429(2003)129:2(120):

Eq. (3) should be referenced to the mean grain size of the surface, not the median. The correct equation is provided hereinwhere $D_{sm}$ = mean size of the bed surface. There is no use of median sizes in the model. In the transport experiments used to develop the model, the surface grain size for each sediment varied little from run to run. The value of $D_{sm}$ used in Eq. (3) and in determining ${\tau }_{ri}$ in Fig. 3 is an average over all runs with each sediment.

The second error is the terms ${\tau }_{\mathit{rsm}}$ and ${\tau }_{rm}$ and the terms ${\tau }_{rm}^{*}$ and ${\tau }_{\mathit{rsm}}^{*}$. The first pair ${\tau }_{\mathit{rsm}}$ and ${\tau }_{rm}$ are identical and represent the reference shear stress for $D_{sm}$, given by X symbols in Fig. 3. The second pair ${\tau }_{rm}^{*}$ and ${\tau }_{\mathit{rsm}}^{*}$ are identical and defined in Eq. (5) of the paper

All mean sizes in the paper are geometric means, not arithmetic.
