Scrubbing Odors from Wastewater Treatment
Publication: Journal of the Environmental Engineering Division
Volume 108, Issue 4
Abstract
A pilot scrubber system using sodium hypochlorite and sodium hydroxide solutions was tested for its effectiveness and the optimal operation conditions when used for removing odors from the air of a sewage treatment plant. Test equipments such as scrubbers and olfactometers were used for the collection of data. The data were utilized to determine the optimum concentrations of chemicals necessary for the most effective reduction of the sewage odor. From the data, the odor intensity was found to be a function of sewage temperature and ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential). The concentrations of chemicals in the treated air were determined by performing GC/MS analyses on the scrubber effluent air.
