Prediction of RBC Performance for Nitrification

Publication: Journal of the Environmental Engineering Division
Volume 107, Issue 4

Abstract

The data reported previously by many investigators were used to develop mathematical models for the prediction of nitrification by a rotating biological contactor (RBC). The RBC served as either a secondary or a tertiary wastewater treatment system. The predictive models obtained from the present study were tested and verified by using field data. Also, the presently developed nitrification models were compared to the existing Weng model to determine their applicability and accuracy. RBC performance for nitrification can be well predicted if the influent ammonia nitrogen concentration, hydraulic loading, and wastewater temperature are known.
