Abstract

A circular primary clarifier model is developed that utilizes flow rate, influent suspended solids, and raw sewage settling property data to produce a temporal-spatial matrix of suspended solids concentrations within the clarifier. The model allows the simulation of clarifier performance under dynamic loading conditions. Three sampling programs were conducted at the Waterloo Water Pollution Control Plant for model verification purposes. The mathematical model proved to have good predictive capabilities and to be insensitive to changes in empirically-determined coefficients. Inter-parameter correlations between BOD/TOC/SS are demonstrated that allow augmentation of effluent sampling programs.
