Abstract
An analytical method using established geotechnical engineering fundamentals to predict the time dependent rate of leachate generation from a sludge deposit is presented. The method was developed by differentiating Terzaghi's consolidation equation with respect to a dimensionless time factor. Two examples are presented to illustrate the use of the developed equations and tables to determine the time dependent rate of leachate generation. Also illustrated are methods to increase consolidation settlement rates to increase the storage capacity of disposal sites.
