Modeling Sewer Flows Using Time Series Analysis

Publication: Journal of the Environmental Engineering Division
Volume 104, Issue 4

Abstract

A method of modeling the probabilistic process underlying combined sewer flows is covered. Recently increased national attention directed at the combined sewer overflow problem has caused computer modeling to become an increasingly important tool in the long-term planning and design of wastewater treatment plants. Statistically valid hypothetical flows are an important adjunct to the use of such modeling tools. Specific results obtained through time series analysis methods are presented for historical flow series at two separate sites. Finally a technique for generating hypothetical flow series that have the same statistical properties as the original series is given.
