Variations in Nitrogen and Organics in Wastewaters
Publication: Journal of the Environmental Engineering Division
Volume 103, Issue 4
Abstract
The primary and secondary effluents of three treatment plants were sampled to determined diurnal variations in the concentration and mass loading of ammonia, soluble COD, and soluble organic nitrogen. The biodegradability of organic matter in secondary effluent was monitored. The data bear significant implications for the design of nitrification systems, the setting of nitrogen discharge requirements, and advanced wastewater treatment.
