Abstract
Treatability study of yeast plant wastewater was conducted by a two-stage activated sludge process together with the conventional single-state activated sludge system. The results of laboratory investigation showed the former process could achieve a comparatively high treatment efficiency in terms of organic and suspended solids removals. Daily sludge production was found lower in the two-stage activated sludge process because of its low cell yield coefficient coupled with high sludge decay rate. Elimination of the undesirable dark-brown color in raw and biologically treated yeast wastewater by chemical coagulation is not economically feasible due to high chemical demand and cost.
