Abstract
An epoxy injection repair project for timber roof trusses is described. Two 200-ft (61-m) trusses over four 50-ft (15.3-m) spans were visually inspected to select the weakest-appearing locations for repair. The repair procedure consisted of sealing these locations and injecting an epoxy resin that was to fill cracks and prrovide shear resistance between adjacent timber surfaces. The effect of providing this shear resistance was to change pin-ended web members to fixed-ended, and thus to change stresses in the truss. For most members, the stresses were slightly increased. Man-hours and materials spent in the repair process were monitored and analyzed. The paper gives the results of this analysis and a guide to cost estimating for this type of repair. Various problems encountered during the repair process are described.
