Safety: Function of Job Control

Publication: Journal of the Construction Division
Volume 104, Issue 2

Abstract

In the winter of 1977, the National Utility Contractors Association conducted a nationwide survey of utility contractors which has provided new insights about construction safety. In particular, it was found that good job control is closely linked to good safety performance. In essence, the results show that those contractors who monitor and control their projects more closely have fewer job injuries. Job control appears to be particularly close in small firms where the company president or owner, or both, are more involved in the field operations. Such firms have especially low injury frequencies.
