Construction Methods in Tunneling under a Railroad
Publication: Journal of the Construction Division
Volume 103, Issue 3
Abstract
The alignment of a new transit facility under a busy railroad made it advisable to design and specify certain construction methods. These methods were specified to insure safety, cost identification, and compatibility of future construction. Stabilizing of existing abutments, tying of retaining walls to resist lateral forces, underpinning, and tunneling procedures are described.
