Abstract
Management of construction calls for the manipulation of large amounts of data. In Romania, project description takes as many as 40,000 estimate items and specification of 80,000-1,000,000 material types. In order to handle large volumes of data, the Center for Cybernetics in Construction at Bucharest has developed a processing system called SICOP. This system is used by the Industrial Construction Ministry to process information regarding projects from concept stage to plant start-up. The paper describes the SICOP subsystems with emphasis on the PLU system which is used for work task definition and coordination.
