Abstract
A general review is given of an Engineering Foundation Research Conference on Construction Engineering and Management, held February 12-16, 1969 at Pacific Grove, CA. The objective of the conference was to locate gaps in construction, engineering, and management knowledge; particularly in areas crossing the boundaries between the various facets of construction, engineering and management. Ways to fill the gaps were identified and areas of needed research defined. Six significant areas were considered: (1) Owner, designer, constructor relationship; (2) sociological and political factors influencing the future construction system; (3) implementation of the future construction system—a case study; (4) market forecasting as a concept and its place in the future construction system; (5) the prefabrication concept—off site manufacture—on site construction assembly; and (6) technological forecasting and future construction system.
