Abstract
Detailed field investigation of available sites are required prior to initiating design. Laboratory tests and test fills play an ever increasing part in such a structure. Because of economies gained from small changes in slope, the design of such a structure must be flexible and adaptable to change as abutments and river beds are stripped to sound rock. Plans and specifications must recognize the rapid development and availability of different pieces of compaction equipment. Procedures of borrow and required excavation dictate schedule of timing on availability of materials and these factors must be recognized in zoning the dam.
