Abstract
An examination of how ethical dilemmas are created is presented and applied to engineering practice. Cases which are most typical of such conflicts are whistleblowing cases in which the engineer is torn between making a judgement based on his professional standards of excellence and making a judgement which alines itself with management policy. An ethical analysis from a philosophical point of view provides an analysis of the problem of conflicting roles.
