Individual Development in Matrix Organization

A matrix organization provides the structure for an engineer to develop both technical and managerial skills on a variety of assignments. This organization allows the firm to conduct an extensive on-the-job training program by moving the engineer into and out of different work teams. Movement of engineers helps to develop engineers who are exposed to all aspects of the firm's practice and helps the individual and the firm to evaluate the effective placement of the individual. In a true matrix organization, teams are formed and disbanded to meet the work requirements. Engineers have an opportunity to see various manager's styles and leadership characteristics, to determine which produces the best results, and to develop their own skills. Negative points of the matrix organization are also reviewed.
