Engineers' Professional Rights

Abstract
Engineering ethics has stressed the importance of the duties and responsibilities that engineers have to the public, employers, etc., but little attention has been given to the rights which engineers possess in virtue of their professional status. In this paper, an argument is developed that: (1)Explains what the concept of rights means; (2)describes what professional rights are and how they are justified; and (3)defends the thesis that engineers and engineering societies should recognize the significance of engineers' professional rights.
