Abstract
The ramifications of moonlighting after hours by the engineer are complex and adversely affect his regular employer, client, himself, the profession, and society-at- large. By soliciting commissions directly, or providing services to established firms, a moonlighter may welcome the supplementary income and new responsibilities. Yet, without professional liability insurance, he risks personal financial loss and may involve his regular employer in legal proceedings. Full-time employment plus additional moonlighting hours may result in a deterioration in the overall quality of an engineer's work, and may jeopardize the safety, health, and welfare of the public.
