Abstract
The development and rationale behind the Florida Engineering Society Certification of Continuing Professional Development Program is presented and examined. The development of the certificate program took 4 years and the purpose of the certificate is to recognize, encourage, and support those individual engineers who participate regularly in their continued professional development. The certificate is not intended as a means of honoring engineers but is for those engineers who earn it by meeting minimum standards for a 3-year period of time. The minimum standards that were developed consider the experience and professional/technical organization activities and the educational/development activities that an individual engineer does. The certificate is supported by the Florida Engineering Society and is available to the FES membership or any other professional engineer. To date, 45 members of the FES have received the certificate.
