Abstract

Relatively little is being done in the way of meaningful interchange today. More extensive utilization of teaching seminars is suggested whereby practitioners or teams of practitioners enter universities as visiting professors, lecturing, reviewing engineering problems and discussing alternative solutions. This approach is expected to provide better insight as to how engineering is practiced. Longer visiting professor relationships with possible full-time teaching for a period of time would be meaningful. Team teaching by groups or firms would involve more practicing engineers with reduced time demands. Sincere demonstration of interest in educator-practitioner interchange is necessary by both universities and practitioners if this trend to greater involvement is to grow.
