Abstract

Two areas are considered requiring an ever broadening engineering viewpoint which would serve as a basis for providing the kinds of leadership appropriate to the civil engineer. An advocacy role in the determination of national and local priorities based on intense deliberation of the real needs and an enlarged view of individual engineering projects with which we become associated. The development of broader viewpoints and the related skills by civil engineers would serve to bridge the gap between disciplines which has so concerned the observers cited in this paper. It has been shown how it will be necessary to educate civil engineers in the humanities and social sciences to meet the demands facing the profession for multidisciplined civil engineers.
