The Associate Member in ASCE

The relationship between the Associate Member and ASCE is studied. The Society should emphasize the professional aspect of its activities and in many areas increase those activities particularly on a national level. Specifically, there should be more Associate Members serving on national committees. Recognizing that professional benefits are more readily available at the local section level, means should be found to make all Associate Members active particpating members of local sections, not just dues-paying national members. The Society should improve its communications with its membership and the public. The Society should recongnize that its philosophy is not in tune with a large segment of its membership and take steps to change. The Society should take steps to improve the financial position of its members. It is recognized that these recommendations are very general and it is necessary to devise means to implement.
