Sensitivity Analysis of Wind Generated Wave Predictions
Publication: Journal of the Waterways, Harbors and Coastal Engineering Division
Volume 97, Issue 2
Abstract
When predicting wind generated wave characteristics in transition depths and narrow bays, an effective fetch is often used. Potential errors in effective fetch influence design assumptions and the cost of protective structures. Deep water wave relationships are analyzed to develop a generally applicable method for estimating the importance of such errors to wave runup on dikes and the volume of fill required to prevent overtopping. The sensitivity functions for an example are given. A similar analysis could be used to determine the effects of wind velocity errors on designs.
