Wave Attenuation by Fluid Filled Bags
Publication: Journal of the Waterways, Harbors and Coastal Engineering Division
Volume 97, Issue 1
Abstract
Two concepts for attenuating waves were evaluated as a part of a study which offers promise for use as breakwaters. A bag filled with a fluid floating on the surface and a submerged bag and duct device partially inflated with air may have application by use of fabrics now in service. The floating device with simplicity in construction possesses characteristics suitable for smaller bodies of water and limited wave activity. The air device is more complex but has the possibilities for application under more extreme conditions. Tests conducted were exploratory in nature but may form the basis for consideration of further evaluation and prototype study.
