Abstract
A series of laboratory experiments were performed to determine relationships between alternate bar geometry, bed material properties and hydraulic parameters. The experiments were conducted in a recirculating laboratory flume 100 ft long and 3 ft wide. The flume had smooth rigid walls and a movable bed. Sand, expanded clay aggregate and plastic pellets were used as the bed materials. A linear relationship existed between the logarithm of the dimensionless parameter λS/D and the Froude number, where λ is the meandering wave length, S is the slope, and D is the mean depth.
